Welcome to Illy’s Island, a space for self-discovery, mindful movement, and authentic connection.
My name is Illy, and I’m here to help you loosen up - in body, mind, and spirit. I am passionate about making yoga accessible to real people with real bodies - no pretzel poses or magazine-cover expectations here.
Born and raised in Bulgaria, I grew up without fast food, microwaves, processed snacks, or screens. My childhood was rooted in simplicity, movement, and connection, and these values continue to shape my approach to life and teaching. I discovered yoga in 1995 through The Book of Yoga, and was captivated by its philosophy and discipline. Yoga has been a constant in my life ever since, guiding me through different phases, including my move to the United States at age 22, becoming a mom of two, and later my transition to teaching yoga and wellness.
Before embracing my passion for teaching yoga, I spent 15 years working in the healthcare industry, gaining deep insights into the complex relationship between health, wellness, and modern life’s hustle. This experience cultivated my desire to make a more personal impact on people’s well-being. In 2020, during the Covid pandemic, I cut the cord with my corporate job and completed a 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training in Hatha and Vinyasa and later in Mindfulness. I transitioned to yoga and mindfulness instruction to create spaces where individuals can thrive, both physically and mentally, through conscious movement, digital detox practices, and self-care. My background in the healthcare equips me with a unique understanding of the importance of preventive care, and I channel this knowledge into my teaching to help others achieve a more balanced and fulfilling life.
Yoga, to me, is more than stretching or exercise—it’s a practice of self-discovery. I see your yoga practice as a safe container, a mirror, for getting to know yourself better. It’s not about mastering poses but about connecting with your breath, calming your mind, and finding ease and stability in your body.
My classes are creative, accessible, and welcoming for all. They’re moderate in pace, easily adaptable to your energy, and accompanied by music. I embrace each student’s uniqueness, reminding you that yoga poses aren’t projects to perfect but tools for discovering what it means to feel fully alive.
The name Illy’s Island was inspired by a quote attributed to Buddha about finding refuge within ourselves through mindful breathing. I believe we all have a safe “island” inside us—a place of relaxation, insight, and peace. My mission is to guide you toward that inner sanctuary, helping you reconnect with yourself in a meaningful way.
Whether you’re new to yoga or looking for a deeper connection, I invite you to join me. Together, we’ll explore yoga’s many dimensions and create space for growth, healing, and self-discovery.
Let’s do this together!
